The property was at the time part of Léoville estate, which was the largest Medoc’s vineyard, and belonged to Alexandre de Gasq, Lord of Léoville. At his death, the estate had been shared and became over time the three Châteaux Léoville: Léoville Barton, Léoville Las Cases and Léoville Poyferré. With 48 hectares, the property is the smallest estate of the three Léoville. It also produces a second wine, la Réserve de Léoville Barton, coming from the young vines, but distributed in a much more confidential ways than other second wines. Second cru classé, the wine of Chateau Léoville Barton, is now part of the of Saint Julien’s elite.
