| Beschreibung der Weingüte | Champagne Pol Roger : "The address the most delectable of the World" by Sir Winston Churchill. Born in Aÿ, Pol Roger made its first sale in 1849, and then he developed his business and moved to Epernay. At his death in 1899, his sons took over the activity. For their father, his sons have changed their family name from Roger to Pol Roger. Like many brands of Champagne, Pol Roger has faced many crises, which slowed down the export market. Indeed, the first half of the twentieth century was marked by the prohibition in the USA, the Bolshevik revolution, the 1929 crisis and the two world wars. In 1975, the prestigious cuvée “Sir Winston Churchill” was created. It is a tribute to the most faithful and the best lover of the Champagnes Pol Roger, since its first sip in 1908. (Only 10 vintages of this wine have been launched since its creation). The vineyard has also been developed during the following years. To maintain its world position, the brand expanded its offices and put in place new steel barrels in the early twenty-first century. Today the vineyard has about 90 hectares. This is not enough grapes for the needs of Pol Roger. To full fill its needs in grapes, the brand is also purchasing grapes from winemakers, who are selected very carefully. Thanks to these vineyards on the slopes of Epernay, especially on the “côte des Blancs”, in Mareuil and Ambonnay, Pol Roger develops champagnes full of subtlety and elegance. |
